The meteorite information dialog screen is the most important feature of MetBase. It provides instant access and quick overview to all kind of information and analysis data on a specific meteorite:

official designation, including acronym and abbreviation
country, state and district of the find location
coordinates of the place of find or fall
date of fall or recovery
classification (group, type, subtype, shock and weathering)
total known weight and number of recovered pieces
special features

A variety of data screens can be opened from this dialog screen with further information on:

» repositories of type specimens and thin sections
» references to literature on the selected meteorite, known pairings and synonyms
» images of type specimens, thin sections and main masses (including field photos)
» mineral chemistry
» oxygen, nitrogen and carbon isotopic compositions
» major, minor and trace element analyses
» bulk chemical composition
» pysical density and porosity
» noble gas data and cosmic-ray exposure ages
» cosmogenic radionuclide contents and terrestrial ages
» thermoluminescence data

Detailed Meteorite Information Window


The record of any known meteorite can quickly be located and displayed. An Action Bar is provided to scroll through the database.

The database can be ordered by specific fields and unwanted records can be suppressed from being displayed by using the filter utility.
