1994: MetBase was first introduced as a DOS version at the Annual Meeting of the Meteoritical Society in Berlin.
1997: The first version of MetBase for Microsoft Windows (TM) was released. It contained information on 16,400 meteorites known at that time.
1999: The Bibliography of Meteoritics and Planetary Sciences was introduced with MetBase version 4.0.
2003: The MetBase Library of Meteoritics and Planetary Sciences was opened in Bremen, Germany. The library hosts more than 40,000 articles, catalogues and books on meteoritics, lunar rocks and related subjects.
2005: MetBase version 7.2 was released with information on 31,200+ known meteorites. It also comes with many new features, including an image library with more than 2000 pictures of meteorite type specimens and thin sections.
2006: MetBase 8.0 version is scheduled for release in autumn (October/November)
